Hello,
Today we woke up in the camping barn we had stayed in. Let's just say it wasn't our best nights sleep! We quickly got up in the morning and within 30 minutes we were on our way to our next destination. We had a lot of hills in our first ten miles so we stopped off at Vindolanda which is the remains of a Roman fort and village. It was really interesting and in the museum next to it there were some objects that they had found e.g. some of the oldest evidence of writing in Britain. They were still digging for buildings and objects and they think they will still be digging for 200 years (not the same people though!). We then continued with our ride and there were less hills so we were going a lot faster. We then went to a cafe where Euan and I had a chocolate milkshake and a cake! Unfortunately Dad's gears broke so he could only be in the easy gears but we found a bike shop near the place we are staying at so he is going to get them fixed tomorrow.
Thanks again for the comments and for the jokes. We are now going to a pub for some dinner. Last day tomorrow :'(
Neve :-)
Hello,
ReplyDeleteIt didn't take you long to get over a poor nights sleep and all those hills, you soon found something of interest in the museum and at the dig. Well done for getting on with the ride and a well deserved chocolate milkshake and a cake. Pity about your dad's gears but I'm sure he will soon get them sorted. Good luck for tomorrow. lots of love, Grandma & Grandpa xx
Can't believe that your journey has gone so quickly, what am I going to do next week?? We're you right about the camping barn Neve?
ReplyDeleteGood luck for your last day, wish we could be there to meet you.
As you're getting nearer to Newcastle we thought we should warn you...Last time we were there we were in a pub when a piece of green tarmac came in shouting, he went to the bar and aggressively demanded a pint of beer. The bar man gave him a pint, he downed it in one, shouted abuse at us all and left. The bar man turned to Phil and said "I'm glad he's gone, he was a bit of a cyclepath"
Did you hear about the Irish bicycle courier's new slogan?...
ReplyDelete"You can Really Rely on O'Reilly's Raleigh!!"
Catchy eh?
Better than the opposition's " Donovan Deigns to Dawdle on his Dawes."
Or even "Mick Makes Mincemeat of Miles on his Mercian!"
All you have to do is cycle, and I have to sit here all night alliterating...Life is so Unfair. Hhurrummphh.
Good luck for tomorrow, your Marriott awaits!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an eventful day - and last night by the sounds of it! You've done so well - can't believe it's your last day tomorrow. Hope Dad gets his gears sorted and it doesn't delay you for too long. What a welcome sight your hotel will be - enjoy the luxury - you all deserve it. Lots of love N & G xx
ReplyDeletePS I went to that special garden today (the one with the password!) - it poured all day but it was wet and wonderful! Hope you are having better weather up North! x
HEARD ABOUT THIS THROUGH DOT (MY SISTER). DID THE C2C WALK 2 YEARS AGO AND RAISED MONEY FOR LOCAL CHARITY, ONE OF THE GREATEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE, HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS JUST AS MUCH AS I ENJOYED MY EXPEDITION. YOU WILL REMEBER THIS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, KEEP GOING
ReplyDeleteDERMOT
Really well done. It sounds like you've had a fantastic week and what a great achievement. It's rained everyday since you left the west coast so you certainly got the best weather over here!
ReplyDeleteSome parts of my bike have developed an interest in classical music...particularly the Handel bars and the Bach brakes...oh dear.
Best wishes, Martin, Kate, S & F
What a night and what a day - full of adventures. Only one day to go. Let's hope Dad's bike is ok! Best of luck tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes K, J, A & T
Go the Walsh family!
ReplyDeleteAll the best for your last day from the Gordons - currently battening down evrything in a very windy Cornwall.
Good luck!
Iain.
