No joke; we did it.
Hello,
Today was our last day and our longest by the time we had got to the Marriott. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side but I think we were lucky to only have it for one day and not all week. It was lovely and flat and we were ticking off the miles. It started to get really tough as it was windy, cold and wet but we kept on thinking about the money that we were raising. We didn't have lunch instead we had a flap jack and chocolate bar (very healthy!) but we like to like to think we burnt all the calories off. Mum had another 2 falls (picture to follow) but she is fine now... no concussion this time! We then finished the bike ride and dipped our bikes into the sea again so we had done coast to coast as well!
Thank you for all your lovely comments, jokes, continuous support and a massive thank you for the money you have donated for the Downs syndrome association. We have raised a fantastic £500 as mum and dad have made it up to this amount.

Gears being fixed
Those of you worrying that I had to pedal 120 rpm for 4 hours/39 miles can rest easy...activcycles in corbridge are currently replacing the sheared gear cable. Off we go (luck on rain has deserted us).

What did the cycling chemist create? ... Bike carbonate of soda!
Hello,
Today we woke up in the camping barn we had stayed in. Let's just say it wasn't our best nights sleep! We quickly got up in the morning and within 30 minutes we were on our way to our next destination. We had a lot of hills in our first ten miles so we stopped off at Vindolanda which is the remains of a Roman fort and village. It was really interesting and in the museum next to it there were some objects that they had found e.g. some of the oldest evidence of writing in Britain. They were still digging for buildings and objects and they think they will still be digging for 200 years (not the same people though!). We then continued with our ride and there were less hills so we were going a lot faster. We then went to a cafe where Euan and I had a chocolate milkshake and a cake! Unfortunately Dad's gears broke so he could only be in the easy gears but we found a bike shop near the place we are staying at so he is going to get them fixed tomorrow.
Thanks again for the comments and for the jokes. We are now going to a pub for some dinner. Last day tomorrow :'(

Today the Lynesses joined us again and we had a great day again. It was our hilliest day but it still didn't take us long. We were late starting though as Dad and Gary had to take Gary's car to the camping barn that we are staying in today. Instead of going with them the rest of us went and looked round Carlisle castle which was really good. When we were cycling Euan managed to get a puncture but it was soon fixed. We also saw Hadrian's wall for the first time today and had a great time trying to balance the camera on another wall to get a picture of all of us. We had a fabulous day and are now going to a pub just down the road from the place we are staying at and then the Lynesses are leaving :(

How fast does a bike go down a hill? ... Wheely, wheely fast!
Hello,
Today we had a lovely day as Gary, Scott and Jenny (our friends) joined us. We met them after 10 miles and it went a lot faster when they were with us as today was our longest day (36 miles). We had lunch at a lovely cafe called "wallsend cafe" where we had sandwiches and CAKE! We then did a chain gang which is when you are all in a line on your bikes and then the front person moves to the front and everyone else overtakes. Unfortunately it started to rain but it didn't stop the Walsh-Lyness team from having fun! We had a fantastic day and looking forward to tomorrow.

What do you call a cyclist at the top of a hill? ... Happy!
Hello,
Today started with a lovely breakfast at the restaurant next to the hotel we were staying at. We then started our bike ride and we soon came across a wind farm and could look across the sea and see Scotland! Our waitress had recommended in Alonby for us to get an ice cream. We didn't think it was anything special but any excuse! We then had a 10 mile ride to our hotel where there was another festival going on for the jubilee. We are now sitting in a restaurant about to eat our meal.

What do you call a vicar on a bike? ... A cyclist!
Hello,
Today we completed our first day of cycling. We started by dipping our bike tyres in the sea. We then went along a path where there was sand, pebbles and water. Were were a bit worried that it was going to be like this the whole ride as we were going about 3mph. We then settled into our ride and had a cake and milkshake. Were then had a lovely down hill which went on for about 1 mile. It was perfect bevause it wasnt flat enough for us to have to peddle but it wasnt steep enough for us to put our brakes on. We then met our friends in whitehaven and watched the red arrows. Thanks for the comments. Looking forward to tomorrow.

An exciting journey
Hello, today we are travelling up to ravenglass where we start our ride. We had to wake up today at 6:30 am to get a train from uttoxeter to crewe. We had two bikes in a small compartment, one that dad had to stand with and one that I had to sit with in the isle. When we got to crewe we had a very long wait as there was a body on the line but apparently they were alive. We then got to lancaster where we had to get on a bus. We had some fun getting the bikes in the hold. Now we are on the train to ravenglass where we have all our bikes in a special place for them.
Tonight we are staying in castle grounds which we are lookingo forward to and then we start our bike ride tomorrow.

Preparation ... The liz way
A good nights sleep, ready for the ride. At 2 am, liz wakes me. there is an orange light above the shower in the bathroom. With alacrity and great amusement I bound out of bed to discover the cause. I'm beside myself laughing at the situation when I have to totter on an ikea stool to see that it is the light from a switch. You can only imagine that my mood could have got no better when liz had to have the light on to read to get back to sleep.
We are now on the train from uttoxeter...one carriage....most of it taken up by 4 bikes ;-)
